Toshiba Corporation has developed a new electrocatalyst technology for converting carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, a raw material for fuel and chemicals.

The Japanese company unveiled its innovation today (22nd March), stating it has the capability to process up to a tonne of CO2 a year and has an installation area about the size of a C5 envelope.

According to a statement released by Toshiba, previous attempts to stack electrolytic cells only slowed the processing speed. With it’s new release, the company is thought to eliminate such lower speeds, and dramatically improve CO2 conversion rate.

Toshiba is presenting details of the technology at the 88th Meeting of the Electrochemical Society of Japan held online from 22nd-24th March (2021).
