Uruguay’s First LNG Receiving Terminal won by Foster Wheeler

Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group was awarded an owner’s engineer contract for a new LNG receiving terminal. The new facility is planned for construction in Montevideo, located in the Rio de la Plata region of Uruguay.
Foster Wheeler’s subsidiary won the contract from the state-owned oil company, Administraciόn Nacional de Combustibles, Alcohol y Portland (ANCAP). The value of the contract has not yet been disclosed, but Foster Wheeler has agreed to provide technical assistance during the initial phases of the project, as well as conceptual design of the terminal and development of the invitation to bid for the role of owner and operator of the terminal.
The owner / operator remit is set to include responsibility for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract.
While the project is planned to provide natural gas primarily for local consumption in Uruguay, but it will also supply gas to help meet demand in Argentina. The existing Cruz del Sur Gas Pipeline will transport six million cubic metres per day of natural gas to the Greater Buenos Aires area.
