US’ Jadoo Power to receive fuel cell stimulus funding

Jadoo Power is set to receive $1.8m in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), through the Department of Energy, to further advance its fuel cell technologies.

Jadoo Power will use the money to demonstrate the efficacy of an integrated solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power system in field use – a system which will be a 1-kilowatt (kW) power supply, fuelled by hydrogen derived from propane.

The company is also to expand its fuel cell integration expertise to SOFC at greater than 1-kW portable power applications. Jadoo Power will incorporate Acumentrics proprietary tubular anode supported fuel cell design, to develop a system that is both robust and compact.

The company reportedly indicated that it will work with the NASCAR Media Group (the television media division of NASCAR) and the City of Folsom, California to deploy five systems to replace gas and diesel generators that are currently in use. Three SOFC power systems will be provided, which NASCAR will use over two race seasons – accumulating more than 5000 hours of operation and over 250 start-up cycles.
