Velocys joins Zero Carbon Humber

UK-based sustainable fuels company Velocys is the latest addition to Zero Carbon Humber (ZCH) – a partnership between several UK energy and manufacturing companies that aims to capture at least 17m tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year.

The partnership also sets out to supply up to 10GW (gigawatts) of hydrogen for industry and power projects across the Humber region and provide carbon negative power with biomass from carbon capture technology (BECCS). 

Velocys is set to be involved in the Altalto project in Immingham, a collaboration with British Airways that is expected to become Europe’s first commercial waste-to-jet-fuel facility processing household and commercial waste to produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). 

Commenting on the project, Dr. Neville Hargreaves, VP Waste to Fuels, Velocys, said, “The Altalto project can deliver zero carbon flight this decade and is an example of the new industries enabled by carbon capture and storage, bringing skilled green jobs to the region.”
