Praxair Services has something big in store for customers in Fort McMurray, Canada, who need more liquid nitrogen.

Known affectionately as the 'Whale' it is a portable storage tank that can deliver 16,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen – more than two-and-a-half times that of a typical tank.

The Whale is specifically designed to supply the oil sands industry in Fort McMurray and will reduce the waiting time required to make deliveries, enhancing productivity and reliability – previously it would have taken around six hours to load a tank and drive from the closest nitrogen-filling station at Edmonton.

The development of the Whale was a joint project between AMKO Services and Praxair.

Bill Stoll, Praxair Services president, said: \\$quot;Based on our customers' increasing requirements for reliable liquid nitrogen supply, we contacted AMKO Services' cryogenic trailer business to see if they could help us develop a larger portable storage trailer. The great teamwork and continued partnership between Praxair Services and AMKO Services helped turn the Whale idea into a reality. This is a win-win situation for both of us as well as for our customers.\\$quot;

AMKO Services President Mike Sinicropi added: \\$quot;Praxair Services commissioned us last year to build the Whale at our Dover, Ohio facility. Together, we've developed a design that will likely be used as a standard for future business in the growing oilfield market.\\$quot;
