Witt’s ‘Pack-Vac’ runs without helium

0

Witt is offering the new ‘Pack-Vac’ – a simple alternative for leak detection systems which use trace gases.
The recently released facility is specifically designed for the non-destructive testing of nearly all types of packages, including vacuum packs. Furthermore the utility does not require trace gas or even electricity to run, it only requires compressed air. Major benefits include reduced maintenance costs and cheap running as it doesn’t consume helium. The latter point is a particular bonus given the recently raised cost of helium.
Operation
The leak detection package is placed into a testing chamber filled with water. The headspace above the water level is evacuated using a venturi vacuum driven by compressed air. Due to the vacuum, the package immersed in water inflates. Any leaks, air or inert gas is identified by a stream of bubbles and so shows where the product is leaking.

Benefits
Further advances include reduced operating costs due to the use of water and air rather than the more expensive, helium alternative. Equally, the ‘Pack-Vac’ runs with low maintenance and can be drained sanitarily through a latch in the base. Finally, as it is easy to operate no skilled personnel are required to action the product.
