UK-based Carbon8 Systems (Carbon8), a carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) aggregate production company, has announced the appointment of new Chief Engineer David Clemmitt.
Holding experience in senior engineering roles at Meggitt, Schlumberger and Spirax Sarco, Clemmitt has joined directly from Baker Hughes where he was Global Engineering Leader of its UK business from 2017.
The new role will see Clemmitt working with co-founder and Chief Technical Officer, Dr Paula Carey, to help develop Carbon8’s patented process that produces construction aggregate by combining industrial waste and residues with captured CO2 emissions.
Stating that the new hire’s arrival ‘underlines our ambitions’ to invest in the very best people, John Pilkington, Chief Executive, Carbon8, added, “Over the past 12 months, we have made a series of senior management appointments to capitalise on the increasing number of opportunities that are knocking on our door from within the global cement industry but also in other hard-to-abate industries where CCU is vital if net zero commitments are to be reached.”
The company’s patented modular, containerised CCU solution is described as ‘carbon capture in a box’ and is deployed via the CO2ntainer.
Of his new appointment, Clemmitt said, “It’s an exciting time to be joining Carbon8. My job is to develop the technology by improving its efficiency, working closely with business partners and customers.”
Carbon8’s technology is regularly used in hard-to-abate sectors such as cement, energy from waste, steel, biomass and paper industries.
