Swiss direct air capture (DAC) company Climeworks has raised $75m in equity from private investors, marking the largest private investment into DAC to date.
Climeworks’ patented technology captures CO2 directly from the air using clean energy, thereby offering a pure CO2 removal solution.
The new capital will be used to expand the Climeworks’ CO2 removal capacities, help to further scale and optimise DAC technology and make the technology more accessible.
“We are very thankful for the long-term commitment of our investors, who shared our vision of a climate-positive world from the very beginning,” said Christoph Gebald, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Climeworks.
“This financing round will take Climeworks to the next level and help us make an ever-bigger contribution to reversing climate change.”
“We aim to inspire one billion people to remove CO2 from the air – and this investment will contribute to achieve that goal.”
Since 2017, the company has grown rapidly from 30 to over 100 employees and has team members in Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands.
