The Great Plains – or Plains for short – is a vast, flat expanse of grasslands that stretches from the Rocky Mountains to the Missouri River in the US. The region is the largest supplier of wind power to the US, but it also has a growing industrial gas market.

For the purpose of this report, the Plains includes Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Nebraska.

The industrial gas market in the Great Plains generated revenues of around $1,927m in 2023. This is up from $1,272.7m in 2013, indicating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.24% per annum for the decade.

The largest gas company in the Plains was Linde plc, with estimated revenues of $491.2m, representing a market share of 25.5%. The next largest companies were Air Liquide and Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (NSHD), with estimated revenues of $457.7m and $145.5m, equating to market shares of 23.8% and 7.6%, respectively.
