Industrial equipment supplier Fives Cryomec celebrated reaching 500 consecutive days without any accident on 31st December (2018) at its Swiss facility in Allschwil.

Within the Fives Group, Fives Cryomec specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and maintenance of cryogenic pumps from its Cryomec® range, and these pumps are manufactured at the Allschwil facility.

Safety is at the heart of Fives’ corporate responsibility. Fabien Illy, Fives Cryomec Managing Director, attributes the safety record to the development of a robust safety culture that combines acute awareness of risks and hazards with continued training.

Speaking to gasworld, Illy explained, “The group safety record has continously improved over the last 10 years with accident frequency being divided by three in spite of nearly 13 million hours worked by Fives employees in 2018 in 90 locations. The group owes its success to the following organisation:

  • Each subsidiary is responsible for the safety of the people under its supervision and has established its own safety ambition and detailed strategic plan.
  • One safety coordinator is identified for each activity.
  • A team of internal group auditors, composed of Fives safety coordinators, is involved in cross-audits between companies.
  • A group team is in charge of setting the common rules, sharing experiences, helping each company in the implementation of its safety management system, and monitoring the accidents rates.”

“Fives Cryomec’s ambition is to maintain a zero accident target and move towards an even stronger safety culture shared by each and every employee, and to continue along the path of progress achieved over these past years.”
