A life-long dedication to professional excellence by one of Servomex’s compliance engineers has been recognised by one of the UK’s leading technical organisations.
The Institute of Measurement and Control has presented Compliance Engineer Ian Unwin with the Alex Hough-Grassby Memorial Award for 2011.
Te accolade was awarded for influencing the development of analysers that have both contributed to enhanced safety and improved understanding of the environment.
At Servomex – described by the Institute as an “outstandingly successful British analyser company” – Unwin is responsible for ensuring that Servomex analysers satisfy international standards and comply with European Union Directives. These cover a wide range of considerations including electrical safety compliance, hazardous substances and technical aspects such as electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).
As an active member of the UK’s instrumentation, control, automation and laboratory technology industry trade association GAMBICA, Unwin is a representative on a number of British Standards Institution committees, where his work benefits not only Servomex but the instrument industry at large.
Unwin’s exceptional expertise and contribution to the instrument industry is summed up in his award citation. It read, “Ian’s career has embraced a comprehensive range of practical and theoretical analyser work in the accomplishment of his goals to improve the safety of mankind and of the environment. He is indeed a worthy winner of the Hough-Grassby award.”
