Air Products attended the 2013 China’s National University Chemistry Video Contest award ceremony held on November 29 at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum and presented the award to one of the winning teams.
A key partner of the contest and a member of the judging panel, Air Products aims to inspire and broaden the horizons of future chemistry talents to create a more sustainable future.
Organised by the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers, China Chemical Society and Peking University, the contest themed “Chemistry, for Future Life” has run since May engaging students from over 120 China’s major universities. An industry leader, Air Products has aspirations to make the world more productive, energy efficient and sustainable through its innovative solutions.
During the contest, Air Products shared its gas technologies and applications for the energy and environment sectors and coached the students throughout their video production. The students also visited Air Products’ showroom and Technology Center located in Shanghai’s Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park to better understand how these technologies touch people’s daily lives.
The Tianjin Nankai University team, which received coaching from Air Products during the contest, won the Distinguished Award in the Science Popularisation Group. Its video “Picturing a Sustainable Future with Chemistry” impressed the judges with its originality and creativity in showcasing the power of chemistry in making our future greener.
As part of the campaign, an “Air Products Week” ran from November 2-8 at weibo.com. Through videos, photos and interesting fast facts, the company intrigued university students with gases know-how and how its innovative solutions help increase energy efficiency, reduce pollution and build a better tomorrow. An “Air Products Gas Applications Innovation Contest” was held during the week to help students unleash their creative ideas on gas applications.
A responsible corporate citizen with long-standing commitment to sustainability, Air Products has been taking part in a variety of meaningful social responsibility initiatives and activities in China.
The company has launched scholarship programs in nearly 10 leading universities to cultivate talents and joint research programs with more than a dozen universities to drive technology development to support the sustainable growth of the industrial gas market, etc. In addition to the chemistry video contest, Air Products also participated in the REACH (Resiliency Education: Advocacy Collaboration & Hope) program to develop teenagers’ strengths through non-traditional subjects such as character, self-confidence, teamwork and emotional resilience in the past year.
