Linde has been awarded multiple gas and chemical supply contracts for a number of world leading photovoltaic (PV) cell manufacturer’s first plants in South East Asia.
Although specific companies – and how many – were not disclosed, it is understood that the Tier One business will provide materials and engineering solutions to deliver high-value advantages to customers in the competitive PV Asian market.
Expansion is moving quickly in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and India, in the PV industry and cell manufacturers are taking advantage of the growing markets. Linde will provide the aforementioned companies with international material supply chains and will build gas and chemical distribution systems through these new links.
Linde offers the complete portfolio of the gas and chemical products required for PV processes. Typical bulk gases used include nitrogen (N2), hydrogen (H2), oxygen (O2), argon (Ar) and occasionally helium (He), whilst a long list of specialty gases are also needed such as silane (SiH4), ammonia (NH3), nitrous oxide (N2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), hydrogen flouride (HF), phosphine (PH3) and diborane (B2H6).
We have become partners with PV manufacturers who have an immediate need for a well-functioning, reliable supply chain
Additionally, Linde provides a full range of wet chemicals, including high-purity aqueous acids, bases and etchants for the market, together with its subsidiary Asia Union Electronic Chemical Corporation (AUECC), which has manufacturing sites in China and Taiwan.
Andreas Weisheit, Head of Linde Electronics, highlighted, “Linde is the leading gas and chemical provider in the South East Asia region, with a long history in each of the individual countries in which we operate. Project windows are very short and customers need a materials supplier who can successfully execute sourcing, logistics and engineering solutions on aggressive timelines. We have become partners with PV manufacturers who have an immediate need for a well-functioning, reliable supply chain.”
The Linde Engineering services division is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is currently active in executing multiple projects throughout the region.
