Air Liquide injects oxygen into Scheldt river


Air Liquide has installed a cryogenic mobile oxygen tank, a dosing and control cabinet and six poroxals (Porous Oxy-injection frames) to enable pure oxygen to be injected in the Scheldt river, at the Semmerzake pool located between Oudenaarde and Ghent.

The installation, that helped neutralise high pollution levels in the river, injected pure oxygen into the river water, at a surface of 60m by 80m.

The injection created an oxygen-enriched area in the drainage basin and an oxygen-enriched plume downstream.

Injection of the pure oxygen into the river, which is thought to be the first of its kind in Flanders, has eliminated the level of lethal oxygen for the fish.
