Industrial gases major Air Products has dismissed the opportunity to source natural, geological hydrogen – so-called white hydrogen – as ‘pie in the sky’.
Seifi Ghasemi, who is Chairman, President, and CEO of Air Products, was asked about the opportunity in the company’s recent earnings call. He said, “We do not have any involvement in that. I don’t want to give you a scientific answer, but that is a little bit pie in the sky.”
Ghasemi said the notion that there was geological hydrogen just sitting there waiting to be tapped, and that it could be easily extracted, was not realistic.
“We are not involved in any projects like that. And we are not going to get involved in [any projects] because … we do not think that is reality.”
