Japan-based Air Water has announced its support for an international initiative aimed at improving how companies assess and disclose their impacts on nature and biodiversity.
The initiative, known as the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), was established to help businesses evaluate and report on their nature-related risks and dependencies.
Launched in 2021, the framework aims to provide a standardised approach for companies to report on nature-related risks, similar to the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures for climate risks. By adopting the TNFD guidelines, Air Water intends to improve its reporting on nature-related issues, with plans to start publishing disclosures by the end of June 2025.
This move fits with Air Water’s broader sustainability approach, which includes a 2022-published policy of biodiversity . The policy focuses on minimising the environmental impact of the company’s operations and supports biodiversity conservation efforts.
The importance of such initiatives is shown by data illustrating the impact of industries on biodiversity. According to the United Nations, industrial activities are responsible for around 60% of global biodiversity loss, with sectors like agriculture, mining, and energy having the worst impact.
