Cheniere Energy signs long-term LNG sales agreement with BASF

Cheniere Energy has signed a long-term liquified natural gas (LNG) sale and purchase agreement with chemicals company BASF.

Under terms of the deal, BASF will purchase up to around 0.8 million tonnes per annum of LNG from Cheniere Marketing, starting mid-2026. The term of the contract extends through 2043.

The deal is subject to a positive financial investment decision of train seven of the Sabine Pass Liquefaction in Louisiana. The start-up of train seven will increase commercial operations by around 0.8 million tonnes per annum.

Anatol Feygin, Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer of Cheniere, said the deal demonstrates the critical role US natural gas plays in providing long-term secure, sustainable and affordable energy for Europe.
