Launch of new biogas plant in Japan hailed as a success

The launch of a new biogas facility in Sagamihara, Japan, has been hailed as a success by project developer and Waste-to-Energy (WtE) specialist HoSt Group (HoSt) as it begins converting pig feed waste and food waste into renewable electricity.

Capable of producing 530 kWe (kilowatt equivalent) of power, the plant began converting the organic waste into clean electricity at the beginning of August 2023.

The pig feed waste is taken from the neighbouring pig feed factory JFEC, contributing to an annual biogas production amount of 1.9m Nm3 (normal cubic metres) through anaerobic digestion (AD).
