SIAD MI releases oil-free high-pressure hydrogen compressor for mobility

Italy’s SIAD Macchine Impianti (SIAD MI) has launched a new high-pressure hydrogen compressor made to be used in the hydrogen mobility sector.

A specialised compressor designed for heavy vehicle hydrogen filling stations, the 550-bar oil-free technology is tailored for high pressure, safety, low maintenance and energy efficiency, according to SIAD MI.

Sandeep Gadkary, Manager of the Compressors Division and Global Service Division at SIAD MI, revealed that the company has worked on its new product for almost two years.

“Our customers can rely on us to provide solutions that keep downtime to a minimum, ensuring continuous, trouble-free production,” he added.

Still in its infant stages, hydrogen mobility has been targeted as one of the main pillars of sustainable mobility alongside electrification and renewable fuels.

By 2035, as many as 850,000 hydrogen-fuelled medium- and heavy-duty trucks could be on the road in Europe, according to McKinsey.

Between them, they would consume almost 7,000 metric kilotonnes of hydrogen per year and require up to 4,800 hydrogen refuelling stations.

A regulation introduced last year by the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament saw EU nations agree to install HRS in all major cities and every 200km along core routes.

This aligns with SIAD MI’s aim to play a ‘key role’ in the energy transition. According to Paolo Ferrarlo, General Manager of SIAD MI, this supports the company’s ‘future-oriented’ vision.

“We strive to develop pioneering technologies, such as this innovative hydrogen compressor, and to work with our partners to achieve this shared vision of a greener, more prosperous world,” he said.
