Statements of intent, signifiers of the future in CO2

We’re seeing significant statements of intent from Nippon Gases and its parent company Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation (NSHD) right now.

The NSHD group has been very publicly pursuing – and investing in – both decarbonisation and the circular economies approach to supply chains for some time now, and firmed up on this further since the launch of its Carbon Neutral World strategy last year (2022).

But we have to acknowledge that the group – and subsidiary Nippon Gases Europe in particular – is really doubling-down on these ambitions. It’s putting its money where its mouth is.

The company was the headline sponsor of gasworld’s Europe CO2 Summit 2023 in Austria last month (March) and provided the event’s Opening Keynote talk. President Eduardo Gil Elejoste quoted the rhyme of the ancient mariner – ‘Water, water everywhere, nor any a drop to drink’ – and likened it to the current climate in the carbon dioxide (CO2) business. CO2 is apparently abundant in the atmoshphere all around us and causing climate harm, yet we see often sizeable shortages in the invaluable CO2 supply chain.
