Towngas signs dual MOUs to position Hong Kong as green methanol bunkering hub


Hong Kong-based Towngas has signed two memoranda of understanding to support Hong Kong’s emergence as a regional centre for green maritime fuels.

The first, with the city’s Transport and Logistics Bureau, aims to promote the development of a local green methanol bunkering and trading hub. The second, with dry bulk shipping company Pacific Basin, will see Towngas supply ISCC-certified green methanol for use in decarbonising its fleet.

Towngas produces green methanol through a subsidiary based in Inner Mongolia, using scrap tyres, agricultural and forestry waste as feedstock.

The facility recently completed bunkering operations at Shanghai Port, which is currently Asia’s largest green methanol bunkering project.
