US approves Tallgrass Energy CO2 storage plan for Wyoming

The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has approved a carbon dioxide sequestration project in Laramie County, Wyoming, proposed by energy infrastructure company Tallgrass Energy, based in Kansas City.

The US government agency cleared the environmental assessment for the proposed project, known as the Eastern Wyoming Sequestration Hub.

Once realised, Tallgrass’ project is expected to sequester around 5.1 million tonnes of CO2 annually in six planned injection wells.

It will capture, transport and sequester CO2 across multiple states, and includes drilling characterisation wells and applying for Class VI permits.

These permits, regulated by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, are required for operating the project’s underground injection wells.

Tallgrass has partnered with others for the push. In February, biofuels producer Poet said it would connect its Fairmont, Nebraska, bioprocessing facility to the Wyoming sequestration project.
