Woodside and KEPCO to explore Japan-Australia CCS value chain

A potential carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain between Japan and Australia is being explored by Woodside and Kansai Electric Power (KEPCO).

KEPCO has announced the intention to research the capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted from its thermal power plants, and its transportation to Australia.

Simultaneously, Woodside will study the injection and storage of CO2 delivered from Japan as well as the potential production of synthetic methane – or e-methane.

These plans have been formalised with a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
