World record broken for longest distance travelled in a hydrogen vehicle; AMS Cylinders a key component

The world record for the longest distance travelled in a hydrogen-powered vehicle on a single tank has been broken by a team of engineers from Delft University of Technology in a Eco-Runner XI urban concept car.

Fitted with lightweight gas cylinders from AMS Composite Cylinders, the vehicle on July 5 – July 6 travelled 1196km at the R&TC track in Helmond – smashing the previous record set by the Toyota Mirai back in June.

According to the team, the successful attempt took the team of seven drivers more than 36 hours in challenging weather conditions, to break the record.

Celebrating the news, Reinout Sterk, Chief Engineer at Eco-Runner, said, “It’s an amazing achievement, and I’m really proud of the whole team. It was a real test of endurance for the drivers and the car, and despite the heavy rain, Eco-Runner XI delivered.”
