Chart Industries to supply liquefaction equipment to Cedar LNG

Chart Industries will supply liquefaction equipment, including natural gas liquefaction cold boxes and brazed aluminium heat exchangers, to the Cedar liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Canada.

The US cryogenic equipment manufacturer received the order from engineering, procurement, and construction company Black & Veatch, which is responsible for the complete topside design and equipment supply for the project.

Cedar LNG is a proposed floating LNG facility in Kitimat, British Columbia, that brings together the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation.

With major development milestones achieved, Cedar LNG is preparing for construction, with pre-FID early works commencing in May 2024, including tree clearing and rough grading activities at our proposed marine terminal near Kitimat.

The project is continuing to progress towards a final investment decision by the middle of 2024, with an anticipated in-service date in late 2028. Further details are provided below.

Jill Evanko, President and CEO of Chart Industries, said that not only is Cedar LNG another practical step towards decarbonisation, but it also further supports the Haisla Nation’s economic and social development approach.

She continued, “We are proud to continue to provide the world with our Nexus of Clean™ solutions for clean power, clean water, clean food, and clean industrials, including with Cedar LNG and our committed, loyal partner, Black & Veatch.”

During the first week of April 2024, Pembina and its project partners gave a notice to proceed to the Cedar LNG export project contractors and secured binding offtake agreements for the project.

Laszlo von Lazar, President of Black & Veatch’s Energy & Process Industries business, added, “The Cedar LNG project represents important first steps towards reducing carbon emissions through lower-carbon LNG facilities, which can supply customers looking to move away from more carbon-intensive feedstocks.”
