EFC joins Semiconductor Climate Consortium to increase focus on sustainability

EFC Gases & Advanced Materials has joined the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) as part of its commitment to reduce the ecological impact of semiconductor manufacturing.

The Massachusetts-based producer of electronic and specialty gases will work together with some of the world’s largest technology companies to both enhance its sustainability practices and support other businesses in the semiconductor space.

Founded in 2022, SCC is an outgrowth of the SEMI® Sustainability Initiative and is believed to be the first global ecosystem-wide effort to advance the semiconductor industry’s response to climate change.

As a member of the group, EFC will work with industry fellows to develop and implement new technologies and methodologies to curb carbon emissions and mitigate other environmental impacts of semiconductor production.

Pavel Perlov, President and CEO of EFC, notes sustainability as a core aspect of the company’s mission.

He said, “Joining the SCC allows us to share our innovative approaches – such as our neon gas recycling system – learn from our peers and help propel the entire semiconductor industry towards a more sustainable future.”

EFC will participate in SCC working groups immediately, contributing to ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of semiconductor manufacturing.

According to McKinsey & Company, around 80% of semiconductor manufacturing emissions fall into either scope one or scope two categories, with fabs controlling a large portion of the greenhouse gas emission profile.

It further notes that scope two emissions, which represent the highest proportion of greenhouse gases from semiconductor companies, are linked to the energy required to run their extensive production facilities.

North American CO2 Summit 2024

Join gasworld in September 2024 as our North American CO2 Summit heads to Nashville. More information including our theme and agenda will be released over the coming weeks – you can register your interest to ensure you stay updated.

Our North American CO2 Summit 2023 agenda was focused on how to source, move and use CO2 more effectively and sold out, so we recommend securing your space.
