Turkey’s BOTAS signs US LNG deal with ExxonMobil

Turkish energy company BOTAS has signed a US LNG trade deal with ExxonMobil.

Under terms of a signed contract, BOTAS will receive up to 2.5 million tonnes of LNG per annum from ExxonMobil in the US for a 10-year period.

In a social media post, Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, described the deal as another step forward in Turkey diversifying its resources.

The post continued, “We are among the top few countries in the world with our re-gasification capacity. We will continue to contribute to the energy supply security of both our country and our region.”

A signing ceremony was held in Washington, US.

According to the US Department of State, Turkey is the seventh largest purchaser of US LNG exports worldwide and an emerging regional energy hub.

The Department of State further believes the top end-users of US exports to Turkey to be aircraft, mineral fuels, iron and steel, machinery, optical, and medical instruments.
